Momentum Camps have teamed up with the Sarah Burke Foundation to offer the 3rd annual Spirit of Sarah Scholarship.

Camp Director John Smart says, “Keeping Sarah’s memory alive is really important to us and it was inspiring to see how many people honoured her during the Sochi Olympics. The Spirit of Sarah Scholarship is a way for us to keep telling her story to young skiers and allowing her amazing spirit to live on, continuing to inspire and motivate the next generation.”

“One of the causes dear to Sarah’s heart was encouraging young girls to follow their dreams and believe in their skiing abilities. Sarah played a big part in getting our ‘Girls Ski Week’ off the ground and inspired so many young women through her incredible skiing talent, but more importantly through her demonstration of modesty, kindness and her wonderfully positive approach to life.”

One lucky lady will win a Free Full Package week, worth over $2300, to train at Momentum Camps in Whistler, BC this summer, under the mentorship of some of the top freestyle skiers in the world. Applicants have been asked to submit a 3-5 minute video presentation to plead their case. The judging panel will be looking for a worthy candidate who best embodies one or more of Sarah’s very special strengths and characteristics. Candidates can make submissions to until April 30th. Full details here.

Previous winners include 16-year-old Emma Stevens from Nova Scotia and 15-year-old Carly Lavieille from Ontario, who both enjoyed an inspiring week of training at Momentum’s special ‘Girls Week’ in July. Last year’s winner Carly Lavieille was fortunate to have been coached by Sarah when she was 12 and 13 at Momentum.

She says, “Winning the Spirit of Sarah Scholarship was a true honor. It was the experience of a lifetime. Sarah was an inspiration to many girls in our sport, and she truly touched my heart. Sarah had passion and ambition to take her far in the sport. I’d like to think I have a similar passion to Sarah’s and want to take every opportunity I can get to improve and set my goals.”

“Being at the camp surrounded by people who were touched by Sarah was incredible, and I noticed I was just one of many people she inspired. The camp felt as though it was surrounded by positive energy almost as if Sarah’s spirit was really in the air helping me and others achieve their goals. I highly recommend young female athletes on this path to be apart of Sarah’s spirit and hope she has the same influence on others as she had on me.”
