In celebration of his 100th birthday year, Toronto-born skier Gordon Precious made his way back to the Canadian West to heli-ski—and yes, you read that right. At 100 years old, he’s still chasing powder, setting a new record in the process.

Returning to CMH Cariboos in British Columbia’s Cariboo Mountains, Gordon was no stranger to the terrain. It was here in 2019 that he made headlines as the world’s oldest heli-skier at 94. This time, however, he came with a few more birthdays under his belt, skiing with his partner Tracy, grandson Trevor, and neighbor Charles, who has been a key part of his skiing routine.

“I’ve had the good fortune of skiing in many incredible places,” Gordon said, reflecting on his adventurous life that has spanned skiing trips across North America, Europe, and Asia. “I love the incredible scenery and being outdoors. And I just love skiing.”

The Preparation

Heli-skiing, especially for someone over 100, is no small task. Gordon has been heli-skiing for more than four decades and rigorously prepared for the trip. Regular practice at Ontario’s Glen Eden ski resort and a fitness regimen that includes gym sessions two to three times a week kept him in top shape.

When asked about the secret to his condition, Gordon’s answer was simple: “I take the stairs!”

The Historic Descent

On April 24, 2025, Gordon, guided by a skilled team from CMH, made his way to the helicopter. The group patiently waited for the perfect weather conditions—clear skies and good snow—for a safe and successful descent.

Gordon took his time during the run, cautious at first. But soon enough, years of skiing experience kicked in, and he was linking turns in his trademark style. Other heli-skiers watched in awe as this centenarian made history, proving that age truly is just a number when it comes to chasing adventure.

A Life Well Lived

After the run, Gordon, always the entertainer, shared magic tricks with fellow guests and CMH staff over dinner. But the most profound moment came when Gordon reflected on his life.

“My life has been full of adventure,” he said. “I’ve skied in Iran, in the Cedars of Lebanon, and once even drove my family from Ontario to Chile in a jeep to ski. The trip took four months!”

As he wrapped up the conversation, Gordon shared a moment of reflection from the CMH Cariboos lounge.

“I’m sat here looking out at the mountains, and I caught myself thinking that I’m in heaven on earth. What a place to be.”

At 100 years old, Gordon Precious is a living reminder that adventure belongs to those who are willing to chase it—no matter their age.
