Word to the Wise is a streek skiing film shot in Montreal, starting street ski master Mat Dufresne. This 5-minute-long short film is the follow-up to MTL and MTL 2. Shot and Edited by a true OG in the Quebec street ski world – Xavier Mayrand. The film was released on December 2, 2024 and it documents the 2023/24 winter season of Mat and Phil Boily-Doucet

Words from the wise Mr. Mat Duff:

This project was really a challenge compared to the previous seasons, as the weather and our schedules were difficult to synchronize. There were several times when we were on our way to a spot and once we got there we either got kicked out or it just wasn’t possible because of the amount of snow.

My favorite spot from the project was the wall over the fence (seen at 2:35 in the film), because we were on a bank’s property and I had to hide between attempts because security had spotted us. It added extra stress and the run-in was right in front of the entrance door.

Next season, I definitely plan to film another project. A mix of street and backcountry if all goes as planned. As many rail jams as possible and coaching.

SKIER Mag Review of the Flick

Short and sweet! Words to the Wise has a high concentration of banger street shots. This short film is all killer no filler. Just the way we like it! Mat and Xavier are a great team. This is not the first time they have made movie magic together, and I truly hope it will not be the last. These guys pick great spots to ski, Mat’s trick choice is always on point and Xavier is a master of capturing these wild moments on film. Keep up the great work gentlemen!
