Hi Alex, how is your winter going so far? Where are you living these days?
I am currently living in Whistler, BC! My winter has been awesome so far! Lots of freeskiing days and days filming with BLANK collective. Lots of deep days!
Not competing must free up a ton of your time, what are you doing to keep busy?
I have been doing summer and fall semesters at University which kept me busy. Still spent lots of time mountain biking, hiking, and adventuring outdoors!
Are we going to see ABM back on the mean streets this season or are you sticking to the mountains?
I don’t have any street skiing trips or plans, I would be down to hit some spots but my focus is in the mountains for this season. So much for me to learn and improve in my backcountry skiing and that’s what is motivating me these days.
Word on the street is that although we may not see you competing at the 2022 Olympic winter games this February we may still hear you… What is your involvement with Canada in Beijing this winter?
I am going to be involved with the Olympics in China by being an analyst for CBC in English. I am excited to get the chance to commentate on the skiing of these awesome athletes and talk about a sport I love! I will be announcing the Big Air and the Slopestyle for both Men and Women.
What are you doing to prepare yourself for this new chapter of your Olympic career?
I did some practicing and started research on athletes. I also got to work with a coach who is explaining to me how everything works behind the scene. I feel very privileged to be able to learn these things and to stay involved in a completely different way!
Have you been to China before? What are you looking forward to about traveling in China? Do you have any worries about traveling in China?
I have been to China in 2019 for a Big Air comp and the venue is incredible. Fortunately for me, I will not be traveling to China for the commentating. With covid and how hectic the Olympics are and how difficult it is to travel to China, I am happy I will be doing it from a studio in Toronto.
Well Alex, I don’t think that there is anyone better suited for the job. Congratulations, you deserve it! Any words of wisdom for the younger generation of skiers out there?
Skiing is awesome, do it for fun and make sure you enjoy every second of it! Stay safe! One Love!
