Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Insulation

Helly Hansen developed LIFALOFT in collaboration with PrimaLoft and the Swedish national ski racing team to deliver lightweight warmth without the bulk. The synthetic insulation retains heat in damp conditions, weighs 20% less than traditional polyester insulation for comparable warmth, and packs down easily. It’s breathable enough for high-output days, warm when wet, and super lightweight and packable.

Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hooded Insulator

This versatile layer slips under your ski shell on frigid days and works on its own when the temperatures rise. Stretchy Lycra edging around the hood, cuffs, and hem helps seal out cold air, while a wind-blocking inner placket and water-repellent finish add protection from the elements. Two zippered hand pockets keep your fingers warm, and the jacket packs into its own pocket for easy storage in your backpack. From the chairlift to the coffee shop, it’s a handy layer to have along. Available in men’s nd woman’s fits.

Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator

Warmth where you need it, stretch where you don’t. The Hybrid Insulator combines LIFALOFT insulation through the core with stretchy, breathable panels that let you move freely and dump heat on the climb. Wear it under your shell for ski touring, staying warm on transitions without overheating on the skin track. It’s built for active days in cool conditions, rather than standing around in deep-freeze temperatures. Available in men’s and women’s fits.

 Ridge LIFALOFT ¾ Pants

Cold legs, meet your match. These three-quarter-length insulated pants add warmth under your ski pants without bunching up inside your boots. Full-length outer-leg zippers make them easy to pull on and off without removing your boots, and they can even be worn over your ski pants during touring breaks. Available in men’s and women’s fits, they’re a simple solution for keeping your legs warm on frigid chairlift rides.

Rab Microlight Alpine Down Jacket

The Microlight Alpine has been a staple in Rab’s lineup for years, and it’s easy to see why. It’s packed with 700-fill recycled down that’s treated with Nikwax’s fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic finish, so it keeps its loft when the snow gets damp. The shell is recycled Pertex Quantum, a light, windproof fabric with a water-repellent finish that shrugs off flurries and blowing snow on exposed ridgelines. The adjustable hood has a stiffened beak to keep the elements out of your eyes, and the zippered hand pockets sit high enough to stay clear of a pack hipbelt or harness. A big zippered chest pocket keeps your phone warm and its battery alive. It packs down small and makes a quick, cozy layer for summit snacks, frigid chairlifts, and après on the patio. Light, warm, and built for the mountains, this jacket is an industry benchmark for a reason.

Available in men’s and women’s fits.

Blundstone Terrain boot

The Terrain boot is Blundstone’s latest and greatest slip-on boot. So how do you improve a cult classic? You start from the ground up. Blundstone swapped out the sole and gave it a new, improved tread that are built to handle rugged terrain better than the Classic ever could, while maintaining the simple, elegant design that Blundstone is famous for. From muddy trailheads to long walks in the concrete jungle, these boots can handle it all while looking great.

Inside, a cushioned footbed makes it the most comfortable Blundstone yet. You still get the easy pull-on style that made the Blundstone famous, with more grip and more comfort for wherever the day takes you. It’s the Blundstone you know and love, built for more adventure.

Editor’s tip: To maximize the life-span of your Blundstones, be sure to condition the leather a couple times per year with mink oil or something similar.

Birkenstock –
Boston Tonal Charcoal

The Boston is a slip-on clog with a closed toe, built on the cork footbed Birkenstock is famous for.  Like all Birkenstocks, the footbed slowly molds to your foot, so the longer you wear them, the more they feel like yours. It’s also why pedorthists (healthcare pros who specialize in lower-limb biomechanics) recommend them so often. Something that makes this particular modle special is that it features the “Soft Footbed.”  It is very similar to the classic Birkenstock foundation but with an additional layer of latex-foam, making it feel more cushy on the bottom of your foot.

Slip them on after a long hike, a big day on the slopes or the moment you roll out of bed, and your feet will thank you right away. The tonal charcoal colourway looks just as good on the walking down the sidewalk as it does by the fireplace, and the support holds up whether you’re padding around the cabin or walking into town. Comfortable, supportive and easy to love.

Glerups Boot with Natural Rubber Sole

Glerups’ felted wool boots are made from 100% pure New Zealand wool in a soft, itch-free blend that hugs your feet right up to the ankle. Wool is a natural wonder material. It keeps your feet warm and cozy, and it soaks up moisture so they stay dry, which makes these a year-round favourite. Worn with wool socks in January and barefoot in spring. The natural rubber sole means you don’t have to kick them off every time you step outside to grab the mail, take out the garbage or haul in another armload of firewood. The rich Beet colour adds a pop to any cabin or condo floor. They’re easy to care for, too: wool naturally freshens itself, so just air them out between wears. Designed in Denmark and built for kicking back, these might become the most-worn footwear you own.

Also available with a leather sole.

Gregory Alpinisto Backpack

When you’re climbing a trad multi-pitch or going to school, the last thing you want is a pack that sits high and flops around on your back. The Gregory Alpinisto is lightweight and sits snug against your back, so it moves with you instead of swinging around on technical terrain. A breathable back panel keeps air flowing, which means less sweat on the climb up. It’s built for mountaineering and climbing, with all the loops and clips you need to carry your ice tools, rope, and gear. Gregory kept the zippers to a minimum, which saves weight and leaves fewer things to fail when it matters. The fabric is tough, and the build quality is excellent. It’s also backed by Gregory’s lifetime warranty.

We tested the 50L, which has room for big days with lots of climbing gear. The Alpinisto also comes in 30L, 25L, and 20L. Light, stable and built to last, the Alpinisto is ready for big objectives.

Arcade belts

When it comes to belts, once you go stretchy, you never go back. Arcade’s stretch belts make any pair of pants feel as comfortable as your favourite sweats. They’re a game-changer for ski pants too.  Whether you’re hiking rails in the park or doing a kick turn on the skin track, the belt moves with you.  No more limited range of motion because your pants are too low – your hips will thank you. They come in a huge range of colours and patterns, so there’s one for every style, from black to colourful patterns.  You can also choose from a few buckle styles, including a clever magnetic buckle that is easy to undo, but reliably stays attached no matter what you are doing. For backcountry skiers, one model even has a built-in RECCO® reflector, which helps rescue teams find you in an avalanche. It’s a nice bit of extra peace of mind, since you’re already wearing it. This might be the best upgrade your pants will ever get.

Editor’s tip: Really great for your snow pants. No more restricted hip movement from your old leather belt.

Arcade belts are the best. Once you try out this stretchy belt, you’ll never go back! Available in all sorts of colours and patterns.

Grangers Performance Wash

Did you know that most jacket manufacturers recommend that you wash your jacket after every 5 big days of use?  When is the last time you washed your jacket and ski pants?  Regular laundry detergent can leave behind residue that clogs the pores of your waterproof-breathable jacket.  Grangers Performance Wash is a concentrated cleaner made for technical outerwear like GORE-TEX jackets and pants. It gently cleans your gear while helping maintain its water repellency and breathability, so your shell keeps beading off droplets and expelling perspiration, just like they did when you first bought them. It’s also kinder to the planet: the formula is PFAS-free, biodegradable and bluesign approved, with no brighteners, whiteners or perfumes, and it comes in a 100% recycled bottle made partly from ocean plastic. One 300ml bottle handles up to 12 loads. Wash your shell a few times a season and it’ll keep performing for years to come.

Editor’s tip: You may as well get the big 1-liter bag of wash because you should be washing your outerwear a few times per winter. It makes a huge difference to the water-repellent performance of your jacket and snow pants.

Arc’teryx Grotto Toque

Some winter staples earn a permanent spot by the door. The Arc’teryx Grotto Toque is one of them. The colorful, abstract bird logo adds a distinctive hit of style without sacrificing versatility. It’s the kind of toque you’ll reach for all winter—and might have to keep an eye on if your kid has a habit of stealing yours.
