Two best friends, two massive victories, one unforgettable season. Wei Tien Ho and Marcus Goguen just capped off the 2025 Freeride World Tour (FWT) in the most legendary way possible—Wei Tien claiming the Verbier Extreme win and Marcus locking down the overall title. Their journey from the Whistler Freeride Club to the podium is enough to make a grown man cry, and wish he was 21 again.
Wei Tien Ho: Before the Win
Before his historic Verbier victory, we caught up with Wei Tien Ho to talk about his second year on the FWT, his mindset going into competitions, and what drives him as a skier. Here’s what he had to say:

How is your 2nd year competing in the FWT going? Notice any difference between years 1 and 2?
My 2nd year on tour is going pretty good. Results-wise, I would like a bit more, but we’re only halfway through so I am focused on moving up in the next ones and putting some runs down. All in all, I am loving this season more than ever, and having the opportunity to travel the world with so many great people is unreal. Also, the roster this year, I believe, is the highest yet, and I am just so happy to be competing alongside everyone. With this being my 2nd year on tour, I think just having that first year of experience under my belt gives me a foundation to build off of. I can use the lessons from previous mistakes in similar circumstances and improve. I have a better understanding of how everything is run and the general flow of the series, so I can better prepare for it all as well as enjoy and appreciate it even more. I think the first year everything can come quite fast and can be overwhelming, so again just having that first year of experience can help smoothen the process and allows me to be in the moment more.
What does a perfect run look like in your visualization sessions?
With all the variables, exterior and interior that are at play on any given freeride comp day, I think that the “perfect” run is something we all strive for but is very tricky to actually achieve. That being said, when visualizing my run in my head it looks like executing exactly the line/run I have planned, skiing to the best of my abilities, and showcasing the skiing I both know I can show and want to show.

What’s the ultimate trick you think you could pull off in a comp run if everything goes perfectly?
Double screamin’ seaman
What has been your favourite venue so far?
So far this season, my favourite venue was Val Thorens. I love the variety of features and line options the venue offered. There was kind of two sides of the venue which provided two completely different styles of lines. It was also decently long so linking a full lap was both tricky and rewarding (I’d imagine haha). And the snow was real good.
Best resort you’ve ever skied at so far?
Whistler Blackcomb of course, always. Val Thorens was unreal too. It was massive and we barely got to explore much at all, so I would really like to go back there and explore more. I also love Verbier and La Clusaz.
Favourite way to get to the top of a mountain?
Helicopter, but that’s rare haha. Most of the time though, I love a good chairlift ride with friends just chatting about life.

What’s better, Skiing or biking? Which would you say you’re better at?
Can’t decide, love them both. I am better at skiing in the winter and better at biking in the summer.
Is it harder to be a successful pro skier or biker?
Ouhh that’s a tricky question. I’m not sure if there’s a fair answer there. I think they both have their own different, but equally tough aspects to being a successful professional. There are so many variables in each sport that are so tough to manage when being in the top 1% of the discipline where the margins are so thin. I do, however, hands down, believe that filming freeride skiing and organizing a freeride competition is harder than bike filming and organizing a bike race. Dealing with Mother Nature and all the other variables that are out of our control when trying to film or organize a ski comp is one of the more challenging things in sports.
